What Your Child Will Be Learning This Term
We have an inspiring term ahead! Here’s what your child will be exploring across different subjects:
Art & Design
As artists, we are diving into the vibrant world of Frida Kahlo through our PlanBee unit. Children will discover how Kahlo used bold colours and powerful symbolism to express her identity and emotions. They’ll learn about her life story, her struggles and triumphs, and how these shaped her art. Pupils will experiment with self-portraits, explore surrealist techniques, and create their own pieces that celebrate individuality and creativity. This unit encourages confidence and self-expression—every child will have the chance to let their personality shine through art!
History
As historians, we are uncovering the mysteries of the Ancient Maya Civilization with Twinkl’s engaging resources. Children will journey back in time to explore Mayan cities, incredible achievements in astronomy and mathematics, and their fascinating writing system. They’ll investigate daily life, food, and traditions, and consider what we can learn from this remarkable culture today. Through research, discussion, and creative activities, pupils will develop a deeper understanding of how past societies influence the modern world.
Computing
As computer scientists, we are becoming game designers in our Text Adventures unit (Purple Mash 6.5). Children will plan and create interactive stories where readers make choices that shape the outcome. They’ll learn about branching narratives, coding logic, and debugging, all while developing problem-solving skills and creativity. By the end of the unit, pupils will have built their own playable text adventure game—perfect for sharing with friends and family!
Science
As scientists, we are exploring Evolution and Inheritance through Collins Connect Year 6 Unit 3. Children will investigate how living things have changed over millions of years and why certain adaptations help species survive. They’ll learn about natural selection, inherited traits, and the work of influential scientists like Charles Darwin. Pupils will carry out hands-on investigations, use evidence to draw conclusions, and discuss how evolution shapes the incredible diversity of life on Earth.
