Foundation Subjects
Science
As scientists, we will be building on what we learnt in KS1 and developing our knowledge of the natural world beneath our feet. We will compare and group different types of rocks based on their appearance and simple physical properties. Some might be rough, smooth, shiny, or even crumbly! We’ll investigate which rocks are strong, which absorb water, and which are best for different jobs. We will also discover that soils are made from rocks and organic matter. We’ll look closely at different types of soil and find out what makes them unique. One of the most fascinating parts of our topic will be learning about fossils. We will describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when living things get trapped in rock over millions of years. We’ll explore how fossils help us understand what life was like long ago.
History
As historians, we will travel thousands of years back in time to explore life from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age! We will discover how early humans survived, hunted, and built their homes, and how life gradually changed with the discovery of farming, the use of metal tools, and the rise of ancient settlements. We’ll learn about fascinating archaeological finds like Skara Brae and Stonehenge and explore how people adapted to their environment over time.
Art
As artists, we will be exploring the beauty and variety of the natural world through a plant-themed art topic. We will be introduced to a range of stunning artworks inspired by plants, created by famous artists from different times and cultures. We’ll express our opinions about these works, developing our confidence in talking about art. As young artists, we’ll learn how to make careful observations, mix colours, shade, and create the illusion of depth in our own plant-inspired pictures. To bring our learning to life, we will also have the exciting opportunity to design and sculpt our own 3D flower sculpture from clay.
French
This year, we will be starting our exciting French learning journey! We will experience what it’s like to learn another language and begin to explore the sounds, words, and culture of France. We will learn some basic French phonics to help us pronounce words correctly, and we’ll start building our vocabulary with everyday words and phrases. We’ll practise saying greetings, numbers, colours, and more, and we’ll even try having short conversations in French! We will also discover some interesting facts about France, like famous landmarks, food, and traditions.
Computing
In computing, we will be looking at internet safety.
PSHE
This term in PSHE, we are learning all about ourselves and the people around us in our topic Me and My Relationships. We’re exploring what makes a good friend, how to work as a team, and how to solve problems when things don’t go quite right.
